Pachamama Festival Review!!!

NRK about Pachamama

The Pachamama Reed Boat Project 2011

Norway has never seen a reed boat sailing in its waters before. The ancient knowledge of the Andes is arriving to Norway following the footprints of the visionary Thor Heyerdahl. A 10 meter long vessel made totally of "Totora" will take part of an important series of events from May 2011. The Pachamama reed boat will be the first of its kind sailing with the Norwegian people. A little of the taste Thor Heyerdahl must have experienced while sailing for months at sea. The Pachamama reed boat on the ocean is merely the reflexion of our planet earth in the universe. Come and be part of this marvelous experience... Our humble group of 2 Bolivians (Ricardo Sanchez and Enrique Hidalgo) in Norway and 20 others in Bolivia, made the building of The Pachamama reed boat a reality. We have now joined forces with a Peruvian (Oscar Cruz) in order to bring the boat to Norway. The boat, finished on April the 14th 2010, will start its long journey on a cargo ship towards the coast of Norway in March 2011. Its mission: Culture, history, environment, and peace. The group behind the idea and implementation of the project will be helping the builders of these historical vessels, to implement and develop "The reed boat builder school" We are proud of our cultural heritage and we are happy that Paulino Esteban together with the Limachi brothers, were "the hands" that helped Thor Heyerdahl to cross the Atlantic Ocean by building the RAII. We feel the need to celebrate PAULINO ESTEBAN as the man who kept the sacred tradition of reed boat making and who made it possible for the RAII and TIGRIS, to become the legends they became. We want to acknowledge at the same time, the effort of the Limachi family whose members were also in touch with this tradition.Without Paulino Esteban and the Limachi brothers ancient knowledge of this tradition, plus the the visions of the greatest Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl; the world would have not known that ancient cultures sailed the seas and shared their knowledge in mutual and respectful learning. This boat does not pretend to cross an ocean to prove that ancient cultures met one another... that is already proven. The Pachamama reed boat is coming to conquer the hearts of the Norwegian people... making it possible for all of us to meet together in peace... sailing together and creating a space for understanding on top of our Pachamama (Mother Earth). This project is also a celebration to the feminine and beyond the battle of genders, a tribute to our common Mother, the Earth. The Pachamama boat will participate of many different events in 2011. Come and join us, let us bring the awareness needed to take better care of our home planet, the Pachamama.

Best Regards,

The Pachamama Project team
